Cut, Color and Confidence

It took twenty-six years and the loss of one hundred pounds, but Jen Parcell was finally able to convince her sister Kelli Stovall to "take the hair plunge." Kelli had only one previous (and disastrous) experience with color when she was in college - and she'll never forget it. "I dyed my hair totally black from a do-it-yourself color in a box," she remembered. "It was supposed to wash out after a few washes but it didn't...and it was baaaad!"

Since the infamous "black color incident," Kelli, who lives in Evansville, has pretty much shied away from anything to do with her hair color. However, after her hard work with her weight loss, Jen thought it was time to treat Kel to a hair make-over to go along with her body make-over. Now, who to choose to lead this adventure? Having met Gwen Kirschenbaum several years ago, Jen instantly knew Gwen would be the perfect person to for the task. Gwen recently opened Wild Roots Salon in Fishers (317-529-9193) and was very excited about getting to participate in Kelli's new look.

Gwen took plenty of time with the consultation, making sure she completely understood what Kelli wanted. "I didn't want to do anything crazy," Kelli said. "I wanted to keep the length and wasn't sure about what colors I wanted." Gwen covered all the bases, including asking about the amount of time and maintenance Kelli was willing to devote to her hair. She showed Kel several swatch colors and they came to an agreement. Gwen would give Kelli a chocolate-brown base and caramel highlights. Although a bit scared and seeing visions of black hair, Kel sat down in the chair to let Gwen work her magic.

Work it, she did. After the color application and rinsing, it was already apparent that the colors worked perfectly together. Gwen went all out with the styling and used a flat iron to make a shiny, sleek look. When she was finished, squeals of joy filled the room. Jen loved it, Gwen loved it, but most importantly, Kelli loved it. The change in her "before" and "after" shots is astounding. Jen had never seen Kelli so happy about the way she looked and her (Jen's) eyes filled with tears. Kel looked absolutely stunning - Gwen knew exactly what she was doing and gave Kel the cut and colors she described during the consultation.

Although Gwen is an excellent stylist, what makes her the most special is her personality and her desire to make her clients feel like a million bucks. She truly cares about the work she does and is not only talented, but passionate about and dedicated to her craft. If your desire is a beautiful cut and color AND awesome conversation, Gwen's your girl. Kelli was walking on air when she left the salon and will probably not be coming down until the next time she sees Gwen!

What we live for.....

Amelia and I (Gwen) had no idea how similar our lives were until we decided to be business partners!  We are those moms who look the other way when our house is a "little" messy because we could spend that extra hour with our kids.  We love old barns and a touch of whimsey.  Our family and friends are sacred to us, our roots go deep.  Our kids our crazy, fun, loud and out of control at times and we'd have it no other way!!!  Our mom's and dad's still can still make any pain go away, talk us down from our ledges, help us when we need them and are the best grandparents in the world.  Our husbands are our rocks and our kids think the world of them.  Our friends are rowdy, funny, beer drinkin', shoulder to cry on people and they make our wheels turn every day of the week.  Expect a hug instead of handshake.
